Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have been forced to make a change to their squad for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. Their overseas spinner Adam Zampa will leave the team and travel back to Australia. The leg spinner has suffered an injury. The update was provided by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) before SRH’s match against the Mumbai Indians on April 17.
Who is Smaran Ravichandran?
Karnataka’s Smaran Ravichandran has been named as Zampa’s replacement. The 21-year-old is a left-handed middle-order batter who made his domestic debut last year and has performed exceptionally in all three formats. Smaran has played 7 First-Class, 10 List A, and 6 T20 matches for Karnataka.
He’s joined SRH for Rs 30 lakh for the remainder of the IPL 2025 season.
Smaran was exceptional in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2024-25 season. The southpaw scored 170 runs at 34 in 6 matches. Although he hit just one half-century, the lefty batter struck at 170 for Karnataka.
The left-hander was called for a trial by the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in March, a few days before the IPL 2025 season started. But things didn’t pan out as Smaran would have wanted. Luckily, he’s found himself at SRH and will get his first experience in the league.
