Following RCB’s disastrous IPL 2024 exit, Virat Kohli gave some reflections on the team’s journey. After losing to Sanju Samson’s Rajastha Royals by 4 wickets in the Eliminator on Wednesday, May 22, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, the Challengers were sent packing. However, RCB made a brilliant comeback into the tournament. They were reeling at the bottom of the table at a time. Then they won six matches on the trot to book their place in the final 4.
Fight worth remembering
Cricket is as uncertain a sport as it gets. There can be heartbreaks waiting at every corner of the way, similar to what RCB encountered on Wednesday.
Reflecting on RCB’s journey, Kohli said, “Our performance in the first half of the season was under-par. The standards that we have as cricketers, we were not living up to them. And then, we just started expressing ourselves, started playing for our own self-respect and then the confidence came back.”

“The way we turned things around and qualified was truly special, something that I will always cherish and remember because it took a lot of character and heart from each member of the team, something that we can be proud of. Eventually we played how we wanted to play,” Kohli added in a video uploaded on RCB’s social media handles.
RCB wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik laid the reality of sports bare, saying there are no fairytale ending in sports.
“Things turned around, winning six out of six. We felt like this is going to be the year. But there’s no fairytale ending in sport. There’s always a hard day, one day which doesn’t go your way. Today was the day,” Karthik said.
Kohli hails fans
Kohli expressed gratitude to the RCB supporters for supporting the team no matter what. The supporters celebrated in the streets after they defeated Ruturaj Gaikwad’s CSK.
“The support from fans is unwavering. This season was exactly the same, it wasn’t any different. Will always be thankful for that and will always be grateful for the way they turn out in numbers, not just in Bengaluru but all over the country where we play. Thank you so much for your support and wishes,” Kohli added.
