Earlier, Deepti Sharma on her captaincy debut won the toss and opted to bowl first against Supernovas. Playing back-to-back games in 2 days, the Supernovas were tired. It certainly was not easy for the Supernovas to come and bat having just a 16-hour break in between and thus they went on a wicket-losing spree.
After being reduced to 29/3 in the powerplay, on came Harmanpreet Kaur and wicket-keeper Taniya Bhatia who together stitched a wonderful partnership to steady Supernovas’ ship. Bhatia committed Harakiri and gifted her wicket away after scoring 36 runs while Kaur on the other hand continued her rampage.

Harmanpreet Kaur scored a magnificent 71run knock of 51 balls which surprisingly also became the highest ever run scored in the history of the tournament. At the end of 20 overs, the Supernovas managed to register a healthy 150-run target on the board for Velocity to chase.

Velocity on the other hand, eager to make a great start to their campaign found themselves out of wits after losing an early wicket in the form of opener Natthakan Chantham. However, it wasn’t all over as fiery opener Shefali Verma went on to unleash her fury.
The dominant batter went on to score the fastest fifty of this year’s tournament, a wonderful 50 off just 30 balls as her team Velocity went on to register the highest ever runs scored in the powerplay during the history of the tournament, 60/1. Yastika Bhatia accompanied Verma before getting dismissed by Deandra Dottin.

Shefali Verma was soon dismissed by Deandra Dottin after Harmanpreet Kaur flew off to take a blinder of a catch from the gully. On came skipper Deepti Sharma along with Laura Wolvaardt, and the duo went on to keep the scoreboard ticking.
After having survived the shock of Verma’s dismissal Laura Wolvaardt took the charge on herself as she took no remorse in punishing the poor deliveries. She ultimately drove her team to a magnificent victory and brought up a well-deserved fifty in the process. She along with Deepti Sharma remained unbeaten after having scored 51 off 35 deliveries.
It has been a good outing for Velocity who went on to take a win in their opening game. As for the Supernovas, they are stranded with a win and a loss. On the other hand, the Trailblazers lie at the bottom of the points table with an opening day loss.
