South Africa’s young pace sensation Kwena Maphaka was named the U19 World Cup Player of the Tournament for finishing as highest wicket in the ICC tournament. The left-arm pacer bagged 21 wickets in six matches at an average of 9.71 and an economy rate of 3.81.
Maphaka set the U19 World Cup on fire with his fiery bowling spells. The youngster set a new record in the World Cup, becoming the first bowler to record three five-wicket hauls in a single edition.
The pacer was present at Willowmoore Park in Benoni during the U19 World Cup final between India and Australia and received the award in post-match ceremony.
“Means a lot to me. I worked on my inswing a lot, that’s what helped me in this tournament. Super eager for the future, will be amazing if I can make it happen [play for South Africa]. Lot of hard work to do”, Maphaka said after receiving the award.
The other nominees for the POT awards were Hugh Weibgen, Uday Saharan, Ubaid Shah Saumy Pandey, Musheer Khan, Jewel Andrew, and Steve Stolk.
