South African spinner Tabraiz Shamsi has come out in support of Australian cricketer Usman Khawaja for intending to display ‘human rights’ messages on his bat and shoes.
Shamsi has called out the International Cricket Council (ICC) for showing double standards and demanded an answer from the governing body behind their actions to reprimand Khawaja.
“I would like the @ICC to explain what exactly has @Uz_Khawaja done wrong?? Why the double standards??”, Shamsi posted on X.
Notably, a standoff has developed between Khawaja and the ICC after the cricket governing body prohibited the Australian opener from wearing ‘All Lives Are Equal’ shoes during the AUS vs PAK 1st Test.
The ICC also have rejected Khawaja’s latest request to display an image of a dove and an olive branch on his bat and shoes ahead of the second Test against Pakistan in Melbourne.
