IND vs SA LIVE – Who will replace Quinton De Kock? In Quinton de Kock’s absence, captain Dean Elgar can call on the services of Kyle Verreynne and Ryan Rickelton who are already in the Proteas squad that is taking on India in their three-match series.
Both are immediate contenders with Verreynne having played 3 Tests, while Rickleton is yet to receive a cap.
The selectors will be looking to replace like-for-like with De Kock and both Verreynne and Rickelton make a case for themselves with brilliant first-class numbers to their name.
Kyle Verreynne did fill in for Quinton de Kock against Sri Lanka, scoring just 39 runs in three innings, but will be aiming to turn that around should he get an opportunity against India. He also averages 40.42 in nine ODIs for the Proteas and has a first-class average of 51.
As for Rickleton, the 25-year-old averages a shade under 50 in first-class cricket and has an excellent conversion rate with nine hundreds and nine fifties from just 56 innings. This year he averages a staggering 93 with hundreds in two of his three first-class innings.

Both Kyle Verreynne and Ryan Rickelton could feature should South Africa opt to play either one of them as a pure batsman in favour of Keegan Peterson, who has struggled for form. The South African No.3 looked uncomfortable facing the pace of the Indian bowlers and was out for less than 20 in both innings.
Another potential returnee to the squad will be Duanne Olivier, who missed out on the 1st Test due to COVID-19 fatigue and injury issues. The speedster returns after the end of his Kolpak deal and returns in national after almost three years since his last Test. Dean Elgar will likely substitute one of the pace bowling all-rounders for Olivier, with Mulder likely to make way as Marco Jansen impressed on his debut.
Kagiso Rabada and Lungi Ngidi were impressive and the onus will be on them and the openers Dean Elgar and Aiden Markram to deliver. Having lost at Centurion, the proteas have no option but to bounce back or else they concede a first series loss to India at home ever.
South Africa Playing XI: Dean Elgar (captain), Aiden Markram, Keegan Peterson, Rassie van der Dussen, Temba Bavuma, Kyle Verreyne, Marco Jansen, Keshav Maharaj, Duanne Olivier, Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi.
