While speculations about Sourav Ganguly joining politics through Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) were rife before the West Bengal elections, the BCCI supremo denied the rumours. Although last time Ganguly had a discussion with Shah, this is the first time, Amit Shah will be visiting his residence.

Furthermore, Shah will be accompanied by top brass of BJP in West Bengal, Suvendu Adhikari, the leader of opposition in the state, and MP Swapan Dasgupta.

To make things interesting, Amit Shah’s itinerary also includes attending a cultural event named Mukti-Chakra, where Sourav Ganguly’s wife Dona Ganguly will be performing. Amit Shah will then head to Ganguly’s residence in Behala for dinner.

Sourav Ganguly joining BJP? – The former India captain has always maintained a cordial relationship with both WB CM Mamata Banerjee and the BJP top brass including Amit Shah. Ganguly also visited Nabanna to meet Banerjee a few days ago.

While Ganguly refused to campaign for BJP during West Bengal elections before suffering heart issues, it was rumoured that he was offered the CM’s post had BJP come to power. But TMC retained power with a landslide victory.

However, BJP’s state Vice-President Dilip Ghosh said that Shah’s visit to Ganguly’s residence is not on his schedule.

“I don’t know if he (Shah) will go to Sourav’s residence or not. We have no schedule of this. Meeting eminent people is part of our organisation’s tradition,” Ghosh told local media.

However, WB CM Mamata Banerjee is not bothered with the proposed meeting. Instead, she advised Ganguly to offer Shah famous Bengali delicacy Mishti Doi.

“If Home Minister goes to Saurav’s house, what is the harm in it? I will tell Sourav to feed him mishti doi,” Mamata Banerjee said on Thursday.
