IPL 2024: Sourav Ganguly gives date on Rishabh Pant's likely return to DC camp ahead of Indian Premier League

Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant is just a step away from hitting the field. As the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) draws near, Pant is also keen on his comeback. Sourav Ganguly has claimed that Pant is expected to join DC camp on 5th March as soon as he gets the clearance from the National Cricket Academy (NCA).

The star wicketkeeper and batter has inching his way to recover. Pant has missed action for over an year after suffering a near fatal car crash. Since then he missed IPL 2023, WTC Final, Asia Cup and the ODI World Cup among the major tournaments.

“He has done everything to get fit and that’s the reason NCA will clear him. Let Rishabh get cleared on Mar 5 only then we’ll talk about captaincy backups. We are taking a cautious approach with him because he has a very long career ahead of him. We don’t want to push him in excitement,” Ganguly told The Times of India.

Earlier, it was claimed that Pant would play as an impact player. As for the keeper’s role, Pant won’t be keeping and would play as a specialist bater. The destructive southpaw needs recovery time given he suffered ligament tears on both of his knees. He still remains as the captain of the DC team.

Sourav Ganguly also claimed that there are many wicketkeeping options available in their roster. As for the captaincy, the Delhi outfits will take a call accordingly.

“We will see how Rishabh reacts. He will be joining the camp once NCA gives him the clearance. We will see match by match. We can’t predict. As for wicketkeeping options, there’s Kumar Kushagra. Ricky Bhui has had a very good season. There is Shai Hope and Tristan Stubbs,” Ganguly concluded.
