‘Sore’ Pat Cummins to avoid bowling for 8 weeks ahead of Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India

Australia skipper Pat Cummins will not pick up the ball for eight weeks as he regroups for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series against India

Australia Test skipper Pat Cummins will not bowl for eight weeks in the build-up to the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. India will take on Australia in a gruelling five-match series Down Under, starting from November onwards. Cummins, who was supposed to gear up for the BGT using domestic cricket, admitted that he had been trying to keep himself fit by doing a lot of gym.

As per Fox Sports, Cummins said that he had been bowling non-stop since the World Test Championship (WTC) final. Australia, led by Cummins, are the defending champions of the WTC after they defeated India in the finals at Lord’s. Cummins said that he is going to use this 8-week break to recover and regroup for the series against India.

I’ve basically been bowling non-stop since the World Test Championship final, nearly 18 months ago,” Cummins said.

“This gives me a good seven or eight weeks completely off bowling so the body can recover, then you start building up again for the summer,” he added.

With the WTC and ODI World Cup trophy ticked off his bucket list, Cummins is going after the BGT next. The Australian skipper admits that the trophy has been elusive in his career so far. He added that while Australia were very familiar with the strong Indian side, they were also well positioned heading into the series.

It’s the trophy I haven’t won before … this is the one trophy a lot of our group haven’t ticked off,” Cummins said.

Cummins, who had a good 2023, will have to be in top form in order for Australia to make it to the WTC finals. Currently, Australia are second in the points table, just behind India.
