Andre Russell on Saturday was a happy man after leading Kolkata Knight Riders to a win over Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Eden Gardens in their first game of the IPL 2024 season. The West Indies all-rounder shone with both bat and the ball to ensure his team got off to a perfect start. Russell after the match said certain clips of him on Instagram makes him realise how good a power-hitter he is.
KKR was put into bat first on their home ground on Saturday. Russell’s team was struggling at 77/4 at a point but onslaughts from Ramandeep Singh, Phil Salt and specially Andre Russell helped the Knights reach a score of 208. Russell was unstoppable, scoring 64 of just 25 balls. His innings included 7 huge sixes and 3 fours. He was handy with the ball too, picking up two crucial wickets.
“Sometimes stuff pops up on my Instagram and I realise how well I’ve been striking the ball, which is just a cool reminder to know that you’re doing well. So I’m happy with the way I’m batting and grateful for the win tonight,” Russell said after the match.

“I’m just happy to keep contributing and this franchise means a lot to me. They have shown faith and confidence in me over the years. So what I did tonight is just to say keep supporting and I’m happy to contribute every time I put this jersey on,” he said.
