Rajasthan Royals have got off to a flying start in IPL 2024. The Sanju Samson-led side overcame the Royal Challengers Bengaluru challenge on Saturday to extend their unbeaten run to 4 matches. After the game, skipper Sanju Samson and player-of-the-match Jos Buttler caught up for a chat on the sidelines of the Sawai Mansingh Stadium.
RR too hot for RCB to handle
It was not an ideal start for RR after winning the toss and choosing to bowl first. RCB openers Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis stitched a partnership of 125 runs and RCB looked destined for a big score. But some good death over bowling enabled RR to restrict RCB to 183. Chasing 184, Yashasvi Jaiswal departed early.
However, Sanju Samson and Jos Buttler’s 148-run stand took RR close victory. With 1 run needed of 6 balls, Buttler was batting on 94 and needed a six to get to his century. He did so in style, beating the deep mid-wicket fielder.
Too many 2s: Samson
Speaking after the game, Sanju Samson revealed that his body was ‘tight’ after running ‘too many 2s’.
“Too many 2s in the partnership. But very happy to run those 2s and end up on the winning side,” Samson said when Buttler asked if he felt alright.
Buttler back to his best
Samson then pointed out to Buttler’s smile and said the team was glad to see the smile back on his face.
“I’m feeling good. Sometimes in cricket you can get inside your head a bit too much. Both of us have actually been a little ill so maybe we were thinking more about that than thinking about batting. Obviously you’ve played for Rajasthan for a long time and lots of real support. It’s great that everyone is wishing you to do well. Really happy to contribute to the team and keep up the good start to the season,” Buttler answered.

Celebration better than the shot: Buttler
Buttler, after hitting the last 6 which helped him bring up his 100, celebrated by jumping and pumping of fists. He revealed that it was Shimron Hetmyer who gave him the idea to hit the ball over deep mid-wicket.
“I think that celebration was better than the shot. Hetmyer actually told me to go across the stumps and hit it through the mid wicket region. However long you’ve played the game, it keeps challenging you and test your mind,” Buttler said.
