In a shocking turn of events, Andhra captain Hanuma Vihari has been sacked. In a detailed post, the cricketer, who is best remembered for his valiant knock in Sydney, shared how the Andhra Cricket Association (ACA) has removed him as their Ranji Trophy skipper following an on-field incident.
Vihari, who has led Andhra in the Ranji Trophy for the last 7 years, claimed that he shouted at a teammate, whose father happens to be a politician, and therefore he has been relieved of his duties as their leader. The incident seemed to have happened in January, in Andhra’s first match of the 2024 season.
Hanuma Vihari criticized the ACA and has vowed to not play for the state ever again. However, the teammate he shouted at, KN Prudhvi Raj, has come out and spoken against his former skipper.
Vihari has been one of the most successful captains in Andhra’s history. Under his leadership, the state has reached five Ranji Trophy quarterfinals in the last seven years. Even in the ongoing 2024 edition, the right-handed batter took his side to the quarterfinals, only to lose by 4 runs against Madhya Pradesh.
