Snubbed from World Cup, Sanju Samson fails miserably in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy

Kerala skipper Sanju Samson has failed to get going in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy so far.

After being snubbed from the Indian side for World Cup, Sanju Samson has failed to show any kind of form in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT). Leading Kerala in the domestic competition, Samson has managed to score just 23 runs in two outings. While he got out for just a run in the opening match, Samson scored just 22 off 22 balls against the Services on Tuesday.

Coming out to bat after the fall of Kunnummal, Samson formed a decent partnership with Vinod as the duo stitched a 45-run partnership. The Kerala skipper was looking good at the crease as he also stroked one four and a maximum. However, Samson was cleaned up by AP Sharma before he could do any further damage. Earlier in the first match against Himachal Pradesh, Sanju faced only two deliveries before getting scalped.

Samson has an average of 55 in ODIs

Sanju Samson has been the topic of several discussions among fans and experts alike after the wicket-keeper batter was left out of India’s Cricket World Cup 2023 squad. He was a part of the Asia Cup 2023 squad as a back-up but he did not play any matches and had to return before the final against Sri Lanka.

Speaking about Samson’s numbers in ODI format, the right-handed batter has played 13 games and scored 390 runs at an excellent average of 55. He also has a strike-rate of 104 and has smashed three fifties with the bat. Samson was a strong contender for the Indian World Cup squad. However, the return of KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer in the squad proved to be costly for Samson. The Kerala skipper will be next seen in action on October 19 as his side takes on Bihar in a group stage match of the competition.
