‘Slapgate’ protagonist Harbhajan Singh channels inner SRK on Sreesanth vs Gambhir row

Harbhajan Singh, who led Manipal Tigers to the title win on Saturday in Surat, was queried on the subject by journalists, leading to an epic response by the off-spinner in SRK style

Gautam Gambhir and S Sreesanth’s spat in the Legends League Cricket has the whole world talking about it. Former Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh has offered his view on the matter, but it is not a straightforward response. Instead, Harbhajan, who is married to Bollywood star Geeta Basra, decided to invoke a famous dialogue of Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan to explain the situation.

Gautam Gambhir and Sreesanth engaged in a verbal spat after the former allegedly called the fast-bowler a ‘fixer’ during their LLC game in Surat on Wednesday. Sreesanth took to social media to slam Gambhir and Gambhir replied with a cryptic post on X (previously twitter). The controversy even saw Sreesanth’s wife join the bandwagon in slamming Gambhir, questioning his upbringing.

Harbhajan Singh, who led Manipal Tigers to the title win on Saturday in Surat, was queried on the subject by journalists, leading to an epic response by the off-spinner in SRK style. “Bade baad shehro mein chhoti chhoti baatein hoti rehti hain (small things keep happening in big cities),” he said, in tune with SRK’s famous dialogue in ‘Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge‘.

Harbhajan’s response is even more significant because he was involved in the ‘slapgate’ incident with Sreesanth in the inaugural edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2008. The off-spinner had publicly slapped Sreesanth after their IPL game, leading to a lot of controversy.

Harbhajan was asked about that incident too, but the Indian turbanator admitted that he was at fault in that incident.

“That is an incident of the past. Let’s not bring that up. What happened then was not right, and I don’t have any hesitation in saying that the fault was mine. I don’t know what happened this time (between Sreesanth and Gambhir). LLC has offered good cricket this year, and it would be better to stick to that only,” he said.
