Pakistan Won the 1st Test by 4 Wickets chasing a mammoth 342: Abdullah Shafique entered into the record books, guiding Pakistan to a brilliant 4-wicket win over Sri Lanka in the 1st Test. Abdullah remained unbeaten on 158 as Pakistan chased down record 342 runs at Galle to take 1-0 lead in the two-match Test series. It was Pakistan’s second highest run-chase in Test cricket.
Overnight at 222/3, Pakistan needed 120 more on Day 5. Mohammad Rizwan and Abdullah Shafique began cautiously. But the 71-run stand finally came to an end when Prabath Jayasuriya removed him. Soon, Agha Salman and Mohammad Azam too followed suit. However, Shafique carried his bat, guiding Pakistan to victory. It was the highest run-chase in Galle.

That was also the turning point of the match. Sri Lanka still needed 44 runs and if the catch was taken, Sri Lanka might trouble the visitors. Yet, it wasn’t the case.
