It is yet to be confirmed whether Prithvi Shaw and Surya Kumar Yadav – who have been named as replacements in the Virat Kohli-led Indian side in England – will take part in the remaining two T20Is or not. The likes of Devdutt Paddikal, Ruturaj Gaikwad, or Nitish Rana can get a game in case the duo misses out. Also, K Gowtham is likely to get a chance to fill in for the now vacant spot of Krunal Pandya.
On the opposite, the host Sri Lanka has no room for making mistakes in the last two games and will be looking to bounce back on Tuesday to avoid the series loss. The 165 runs target in the opening game was a chaseable target only if the Sri Lankan batters had played sensibly and showed some intent. Apart from Charith Asalanka’s 44 off 26 deliveries, nobody else managed to pose threat to the Indian bowling attack. The host too dealt major blows yesterday as Bhanuka Rajapaksha and Pathum Nisanka got ruled out for the remaining two games. Charith Asalanka, too, was doubtful for the second ODI, owing to a hamstring injury, but with the game rescheduled he is likely to make it to tomorrow’s game.
The host Sri Lanka will have to come up with an improved show on Wednesday in order to avoid the series loss. The clash will begin at 08:00 PM IST and will live stream on the SonyLiv app.
