Playing their first match of the tournament, the ever-unpredictable Bangladesh, who were on a massive low before coming to the T20 World Cup after losing a series to USA, beat Sri Lanka by two wickets, in Dallas on Saturday. Chasing a smallish target of 125, Bangladesh were made to work hard by the Sri Lankan bowlers, as the former achieved the target in the second last over of the innings. Interestingly, the loss in SL vs BAN means that Lanka are yet to win a match in this tournament.
SL vs BAN, As it Happened
After opting to bowl first, Bangladesh came up with an inspiring bowling performance to restrict Sri Lanka to 124 only. Pacer Mustafizur Rahman was excellent on the day as he returned with figures of 3/17, well-supported by Rihad Hossain, who bagged 3/22. Taskin Ahmed, who missed out the warm-up game due to a niggle, looked in fine form and took 2/25.
Pathum Nissanka was the top-scorer for Sri Lanka with 47 from 28, as all the other batters failed.

Nuwan Thusara’s Effort Goes in Vain
Despite bowling superbly in the second innings, Lanka pacer Nuwan Thusara’s 4/18 could not take his team to the finish line. Wanindu Hasaranga was good on the day too, with his 2/25, but Bangladesh managed to scrape through. For them Litton Das scored 36, while Towhid Hridoy managed 40.
Two losses in as many matches now, and a poor NRR of -0.777 means Sri Lanka are virtually out of the T20 World Cup, as only top two teams from each Group go to Super 8.
