SL beat SA 1st ODI: Avishka Fernando, Charith Asalanka guide Sri Lanka to 14-run victory against South Africa: The opening contest between Sri Lanka and South was indeed a high total affair that ended in the hosts’ (Sri Lanka) victory by 14 runs. While during the start of the match- Sri Lanka’s innings, it seemed to be a low scoring contest but owing to the hard hittings from the tailenders of the Sri Lankan lineup, the match saw a high total of 300 runs being posted on the board.
In the chase, the Proteas were no less who gave a solid fight but fell few runs short because of the disciplined bowling by the hosts in the death overs. Sri Lanka’s opener Avishka Fernando was adjudged as the player of the match for his 118 runs of 115 balls.

SL beat SA 1st ODIIn the pursuit of the chase of 301 runs put by Sri Lanka on the board, South African openers- Janneman Malan (23) and Aiden Markram (96) were off to a fine start before the former departed. Stretching the innings along with the skipper Temba Bavuma (38 retired hurt), Markram wove a 117-run stand following which Markram was sent to the pavilion. Thereafter, Rassie van der Dussen (59) too led enterprising hands in the chase but got little support as the hosts kept tumbling wickets from the other end.
