India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav has been unable to score big runs under his belt. Former India Cricket Team star Aakash Chopra has analyzed the situation, claiming as a captain SKY is under a lot of pressure. He also cited the example of Rohit Sharma claiming it is a common occurrence for captains.
India’s captain in the shortest format of the game, Suryakumar Yadav has been under tremendous pressure to score runs. SKY is now part of the Indian squad only in T20Is and has been ignored for the ICC Champions Trophy squad. SKY’s last ODI knock came in the ODI World Cup finals.
SKY under Pressure to score runs
“The first thing is SKY’s form, and I will tell you why. His numbers aren’t looking very good. In 2021, he had an average of 34 and a strike rate of 155. In 2022, an average of 46 and a strike rate of 187 in 31 innings. In 2023 also, he scored 733 runs in 18 innings an average of 48.86 and a strike rate of 155,” Aakash Chopra said.
Aakash Chopra claimed that SKY has had a tremendous run-scoring rate in the past couple of years. His average and strike rate continued to rise over the years. From 2021 to 2023, he continued to score runs in a flurry. But in 2024, things became different.
In 2024 he managed to score just 429 runs from just 17 innings with an average of just 26 and a strike rate of 150. SKY has been unable to score big knocks. Aakash Chopra claimed that as a captain he is under huge pressure. Chopra further added that Rohit Sharma is also in the same situation.
“Then came 2024. He scored 429 runs in 17 innings at an average of only 26 and a strike rate of around 150. So he is going at the same pace but hasn’t scored that many runs. The decision-making doesn’t remain that good without runs. A captain is under a lot of pressure when he doesn’t score runs. If you don’t believe me, ask Rohit Sharma,” Chopra added.
