Former RCB pacer Mohammed Siraj has spilled the beans on how he is coping up with the Champions Trophy snub. Despite being a veteran, the Hyderabad pacer was left out of the marquee tournament, with Harshit Rana and Arshdeep Singh picked ahead of him. Ahead of his new innings with GT in IPL 2025, Siraj spilled the beans on how he has managed to move on from the heartbreak.
How Siraj coped up with CT 2025 heartbreak
Speaking to RevSportz in an interview, Siraj detailed on how he had learnt a valuable lesson on not thinking about Indian team selection after 2022.
“Selection is not in my hands, I can only assure performance and taking wickets. If i think about selection, then I will not even be able to perform, due to pressure. During 2022 T20 World Cup, I was thinking a lot about selection and I couldn’t perform during the IPL. It was then I realized that if I perform well, them whatever I’m wishing for will come true rather than thinking about selection,” Siraj said.
Earlier, Siraj pointed out that he had performed well with both old and new ball, adding that the numbers spoke for itself. India cricket team skipper Rohit Sharma had earlier said that the pacer was not included in the squad due to his inability to perform with the new ball.
“I have taken the most wickets with the old ball in the past year among the world’s ten fastest bowlers. My economy rate is also low. The numbers speak for themselves. I have performed well with both the new and old ball,” Siraj mentioned in the pre-season press conference.
Siraj last featured in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. He was India’s second most overworked bowler after Bumrah in the previous calendar year. While he was rested for the T20I series against England, he was snubbed for the ODIs that followed. Subsequently, he was left out of the Champions Trophy squad as well.
