Royal Challengers Bengaluru pacer Josh Hazlewood recalled his time with the franchise in IPL and revealed that Mohammed Siraj was the leader of the bowling attack for the side. While the Indian pacer in now part of Gujarat Titans in IPL 2025, the Australian bowler returns to RCB after sitting out of IPL 2024. Incidentally, Hazlewood’s remarks on Siraj comes amid the ongoing controversy over Siraj’s heated exchange with Travis Head in IND vs AUS 2nd Test in Adelaide which the Aussie pacer missed.

Speaking to reporters ahead of IND vs AUS 3rd Test in Brisbane, Josh Hazlewood likened Siraj to Virat Kohli and said that he was very passionate and goes with the flow of the game. He said that the Indian pacer was a ‘good character’ who bowled some serious spells in the last few editions of the IPL. The Aussie pacer admitted that it was good to see such a side of Siraj once in a while.

He’s great. I really enjoyed my time at RCB with Siraj. He’s probably the leader of the attack there to a degree. He’s another one who’s a bit like Virat, very passionate, goes with the flow of the game, gets the crowd up, all that sort of stuff,” Hazlewood told reporters.

The Travis Head-Siraj saga in Adelaide

The incident which occurred on Day 2 of IND vs AUS 2nd Test saw the two individuals involved in brief heated exchange after the Indian pacer dismissed Head. While the Aussie had gone on to claim that he had simply said well bowled and that there were no expletives given, Siraj has countered the claim and has now said that he was indeed abused by Head.

Siraj revealed that he was merely celebrating after Head’s wicket while the batter abused him. He added that he felt Head’s actions were wrong. Meanwhile, Head had claimed that he had told the Indian pacer “well bowled” to which Siraj had pointed to the Australian dug out, indicating him to keep walking. The Australian batter stated that he had a reaction of his own to that taunt, adding that he was surprised to see Siraj’s reaction, given the situation of the game.
