Shubman Gill & Yashasvi Jaiswal register highest opening stand for India in T20Is, match record made by Rohit & Rahul

Shubman Gill & Yashasvi Jaiswal matched India's highest opening stand in T20Is as set by Rohit Sharma & KL Rahul in 2017

India’s young opening pair of Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal stole the show with their thunderous batting. A majestic knock from the duo helped the Men in Blue seal the game by 9 wickets and eventually leveled the tie 2-2, with all to play for in the 5th game. Amidst all the celebration, the young duo of Gill and Jaiswal went on to amass 165 runs in their opening stand, which happens to be India’s record opening stand in T20Is, a similar score which was previously obtained by Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul against Sri Lanka, back in 2017.

India headed into the game eyeing a victory at all costs to save the series. After restricting their opponents to 178, Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal unleashed their fury on their Caribbean counterparts.

Shubman Gill who has been quiet so far in the series roared back to form. The 23-year-old opener slammed 3 fours and 5 sixes to reach 77 from just 47 balls. Accompanying him was 21-year-old Yashasvi Jaiswal who remained unbeaten on 84 with 11 fours and 3 gigantic sixes to guide India to a remarkable win.

But back in 2017, it was Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul who opened the innings for the Men in Blue and slammed a similar score of 165 which remains India’s highest opening stand in the shortest format of the game.

Rohit reached his ton (118) while Rahul managed 89 runs as India amassed a huge total of 260 against the Emerald Isles and ultimately won the game by 88 runs.

Yashasvi Jaiswal has been the game-changed for India in this series. The southpaw made his debut in the previous game and on his second T20I match he went on to slam his maiden T20I fifty for the Men in Blue.

Hardik Pandya and Co will once again bank on the opening stand of Gill and Jaiswal in the 5th and final game of the series to complete a sensational comeback in the series.
