As Gujarat Titans prepare for life beyond Hardik Pandya, former Indian pacer and Gujarat Titans head coach Ashish Nehra backed new captain Shubman Gill as the ‘right guy’ to take the team forward.
Gujarat Titans have experienced resounding success in the two years they have been a part of Indian Premier League. The franchise won the tournament on their debut season under Hardik Pandya’s captaincy. In the second season, they narrowly missed out on the trophy, losing to Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings in the final.
However, in a much anticipated but shock move, Hardik Pandya moved to Mumbai Indians in the trade window before the IPL 2024 auction, The move forced GT to look beyond Hardik, and they handed the captaincy mantle to youngster Shubman Gill.
Gujarat Titans head coach Ashish Nehra on Wednesday said in spite of Shubman being young, his calm mind is one of the reasons he was the perfect candidate to don the captain’s hat.
“IPL is a fast game and it throws challenges for everyone. We have seen how Shubman Gill has been playing for three-four years and how he has shaped up. He is 24-25 but he has a good head on his shoulders. We are there to support him. We believe in him that’s why we have made him the captain,” Nehra told Times of India.
Nehra also asserted that he is not too bothered about results.
“I am not someone who will always go by results. There are so many other things too. Yes, everyone strives for results. Everyone looks for results. But when it comes to captaincy, you must see different things. We are very confident that Shubman is the right guy,” Nehra added.
