Shubman Gill starts Duleep Trophy prep, looks to get into Test groove ahead of Bangladesh series

Gill has taken over Cheteshwar Pujara's number three spot in the Indian team and currently averages 41 at the position, with two fifties and two hundreds to his name.

After an underwhelming performance in the recently concluded ODI series against Sri Lanka, Shubman Gill has started to get back into the red-ball groove. India’s Test number 3 hasn’t played a first-class match since March earlier in the year and is preparing to leave the ball rather than whack it.

Before the India vs Bangladesh Test series begins on September 19, Gill will test himself in the Duleep Trophy. Named captain of India A, he’ll see where his red-ball game stands against Abhimanyu Easwaran’s India B at the Rural Development Trust Stadium in Anantapur.

Shubman Gill preparing for a bigger ‘test’

Gill isn’t just getting ready for Bangladesh but rather for the Border Gavaskar Trophy. Before India travels down under in November, Rohit Sharma’s men are scheduled to play five Tests. Gill averages an impressive 51.8 with the bat in Australia, and before he reaches the Aussie shores, he’ll want to be at his best.

The first challenge will be India B, followed by Bangladesh and New Zealand. Whether it’s lack of form or some technical issues, Gill would lose to sort them out before the 5-match India vs Australia test series kicks off on November 22 in Perth.
