Shubman Gill is set to miss IND vs AUS 1st Test in Perth due to his finger injury. The team is hoping that he will recover in time for the 2nd Test in Adelaide.

His thumb is not looking good. We got a scan done and it showed a fracture. It will take him at least two weeks to recover. He is ruled out for the first Test match. As there is a big gap between the first and second Test, we are hoping he will recover in time for the second Test,” a source told IndianExpress.

India are currently tasked with finding a new opener, should Rohit Sharma miss the 1st Test. While sources confirmed that the Hitman is likely to sit out of the Perth Test as he wants to spend more time with his family, Gill’s injury comes as the latest blow to India. KL Rahul is likely to be India’s first-choice back-up opener. Apart from Rahul, the team also has Ruturaj Gaikwad and Abhimanyu Easwaran, who are currently a part of India A’s squad.
