Shubman Gill ‘NOT’ sent back home from T20 World Cup due to disciplinary issues

Being a 'reserve' player, Shubman Gill joined the Indian team for the T20 World Cup matches. Now, his trip is coming to an end as he'll be returning home before the Super 8s.

Rumors surrounding Indian star batter Shubman Gill’s early departure from the ongoing T20 World Cup due to disciplinary issues have been dispelled. According to the Times of India (TOI), Gill and fellow player Avesh Khan will be returning to India purely because there are enough backups in the squad, including reserves.

Shubman Gill – disciplinary issues or not needed?

Recently, rumors swirled that Gill’s early departure from the T20 World Cup was due to disciplinary issues. This included reports of Gill not spending time with the team and focusing on personal business ventures. However, it looks like that this is not the case.

The key factor seems to be the presence of a full Indian contingent, including designated reserves. With the team performing well and progressing to the Super 8s, management feels there’s enough depth to cover any potential gaps. Gill, primarily an opener, might find limited opportunities considering the team’s current form and potential playing strategy for the Caribbean leg. Skipper Rohit Sharma and veteran Virat Kohli have opened together in all games thus far, with Yashasvi Jaiswal warming the bench.

This explanation also dispels the rumors surrounding Gill’s behavior and social media activity. His reported unfollowing of captain Rohit Sharma on Instagram likely fueled speculation of a rift. It’s important to note that Gill was part of the traveling reserves, not the main squad. The likes of Gill, Avesh, Khaleel Ahmed and Rinku Singh are the designated reserve individuals for the 2008 T20 champions.
