GT skipper Shubman Gill looked in fine nick vs MI as he scored 38 from 27, but despite the promise shown, his innings was cut short by MI captain Hardik Pandya. The batter was caught at square leg by Naman Dhir, leaving Gill shocked. But that dismissal wasn’t quite out of the blue. In fact, the youngster has struggled against Hardik, more often than not.
Hardik Pandya vs Shubman Gill, a Mismatch
If one takes a look at all the IPL matches, both have played against each other, Hardik Pandya has managed to dismiss Shubman Gill, a staggering four times, in 5 innings. If we further break down the record, in those, the batter has only managed to score 11 runs in 18 deliveries, out of which 12 have been dots.
What is even stranger is, Gill has scored only one four and no sixes in those. That means a strike-rate of 61, and an average of 2.75. That is poor by any standards. All this is in complete contrast with how Shubman Gill has performed at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, in IPL.
Shubman Creates an IPL Record
During his innings of 38, he became the second-fastest batter to score 1000 runs at an IPL venue. He only needed 20 innings to reach the milestone. That is only surpassed by Chris Gayle, who had reached 1000 runs in Bengaluru in 19 innings. Gill had also ensured a solid start to Gujarat vs MI, as he combined with Sai Sudharsan to get an opening stand of 78 in 8.3 overs.
