Gill is having a dream year in 2023, notching six centuries across formats. The right-hand batter has also continued his sparkling form in IPL 2023 season, scoring 576 runs in 13 games.

“I definitely see him having the potential of becoming someone as big as Virat Kohli or Sachin Tendulkar. I certainly think he has got the stuff. He is a phenomenal player who is in exceptional form and is playing some exceptional cricket at the moment,” he told Hindustan Times.

IPL 2023: Why Robin Uthappa feels Gill has the potential to become as big as Kohli or Tendulkar?

· Like Kohli and Tendulkar, Gill never shies away from taking responsibility.
· The GT opener is also a quick learner and always tries to improve.
· Gill is never satisfied with what he has achieved. Tendulkar and Kohli had the same burning desire throughout their careers.
· Like Kohli, Gill is also looked at as an all-format player. After scoring hundreds in each format, experts believe the youngster is here to stay.
· Gill also relies on traditional and orthodox cricket and likes scoring runs by playing neat shots.
· Apart from the GT opener, Uthappa also believes Yashasvi Jaiswal is the next big thing in cricket.

“I feel and believe personally that Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal are the two next big things of Indian cricket.”

Like Gill, Jaiswal is also having a dream IPL 2023 season. The Southpaw has scored 575 runs in 13 games. However, Robin Uthappa stated that Jaiswal’s breakthrough IPL season may not warrant him a place in the ODI team ahead of the World Cup.

The former CSK player pointed out that team India may not make wholesome changes in the squad as that might break the rhythm.

“From my experience with the Indian team, I feel they will continue with the experienced players because making wholesale changes this close to the World Cup is not wise. And I think form is temporary. Having said that, I feel post the World Cup we might see wholesale changes. Yes, there are a few injury concerns that needs to be addressed.

We are already missing Bumrah, and I hope he gets fit before the World Cup. Then you have KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant out, and these are areas of concern I feel. I hope we put out a fit team and give ourselves the best chance to win the World Cup,” he said.
