India vs. Pakistan isn’t just another match. It’ll be the biggest billed clash in cricket and definitely among the most intense rivalries in all of sports. But players from both sides maintain that it’s just a game for them. On the eve of their encounter in the ICC Champions Trophy, India cricket team’s vice-captain Shubman Gill has reiterated the same.
India vs. Pakistan, just another match
Gill says Team India will treat their match against Pakistan as any other clash. Yes, it’s a big game, but it’s not like they are facing Mohammed Rizwan and co. in the final of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
“India vs. Pakistan doesn’t change anything. We play to win every match. It’s a big match, but the final is always the biggest match of any tournament,” Gill told reporters in Dubai.
The Men in Blue won’t be taking Pakistan lightly. Yes, they were easily beaten by New Zealand in Karachi a couple of days ago, but that doesn’t mean they won’t be dangerous. Everyone knows that Pakistan can flip the switch at any moment. Their 2017 Champions Trophy-winning campaign is the perfect example. After losing to India in their opener by 124 runs, they went on to lift the title, beating Sri Lanka, South Africa, England, and India on the way.
“But by no means are we taking Pakistan as a lesser side,” Gill added.
Vice-captain Shubman Gill has ready for India vs Pakistan match
The opener has been in splendid touch, scoring 360 runs in the last four matches (2 hundreds and 2 fifties). This also included an unbeaten hundred against Bangladesh in Team India’s Champions Trophy opener. Asked about how he’ll approach the India vs. Pakistan match now that he’s been given extra responsibility, Gill said, “Vice-captaincy hasn’t changed anything. Whenever I am batting, I am playing as a batter.”
