Shubman Gill has finally come good for India at the number 3 spot. The batter had replaced veteran Cheteshwar Pujara at the position and hadn’t justified the faith put in him by the Indian management.
After winning the match, Shubman Gill was asked, “You know, people, they kept asking me, why did you go from open to number three?
Gill highlighted how he has experience batting at number three after doing so in first-class cricket. However, he admitted that batting in domestic cricket is vastly different from international cricket.
I told them I have batted at number three in first class, and I’ve scored three double tons at number three, and it wasn’t something that I’d never done. But obviously, betting at number three in international cricket is a bit different.
Gill had put his hand up to take the spot when skipper Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid decided to move on from Pujara. After scoring his first century at the number 3 spot, the talented right-hander has thanked the management for giving him ample opportunities to prove himself.
I was thankful that I got the experiences, the opportunities, and the mistakes that I made. They all led up to this, and hopefully, I’ll be able to learn from their experiences.”
