Shubman Gill County Cricket: In-form India opener Shubman Gill is all set to follow Cheteshwar Pujara’s footsteps and sign for English County side Glamorgan. Gill who won the player of the series in ODIs against West Indies and Zimbabwe will head to England to work on his red ball game during the offseason. The 23-year-old had featured in India’s 5th Test loss at Edgbaston but failed to get runs as Jasprit Bumrah and Co failed to clinch the series. Gill who won two back-to-back Player of the Series awards in ODIs against the West Indies and Zimbabwe will now head to England to join Glamorgan. Gill’s signing will be approved post VISA clearance. Should all go well, he will join a host of cricketers who sought County experience this year including Cheteshwar Pujara, Umesh Yadav and Washington Sundar among others.

According to ESPNCricinfo, Gill will be playing the remainder of the 2022 County Championship in Division 2 of English county system. They still have four more matches left and will resume the season against Worcestershire on September 5 in Cardiff. Incidentally, Pujara also plies his trade in Division two with Sussex and is the second highest run-getter with over a 1000 runs this year.

Gill will be the third Indian to wear the Glamorgan jersey after former India head coach Ravi Shastri played for the team from 1987-1991 and BCCI president Sourav Ganguly in the year 2005 don the jersey of the English County club. The 23-year-old has experience in playing 11 Test matches in which he has scored 579 runs at an average of 30.47.

In the current season, Mohammed Siraj (Warwickshire), Navdeep Saini (Kent), Pujara (Sussex), Krunal Pandya (Warwickshire), Umesh Yadav (Middlesex), Washington Sundar (Lancashire) all the Indian players have played in the first-class competitions.
