Shubman Gill continued his dream form in ODIs as he brought up his 9th ODI half-century during IND vs AUS 1st ODI in Mohali. This was Gill’s first innings in national colors and he celebrated the homecoming with a 37-ball fifty in a 276-run chase.
Gill’s family was at the ground to watch him play in Mohali and were seen enjoying the Indian opener’s innings.
The opening batter has made a remarkable start in ODIs, hitting 9 fifties & 5 hundreds from just 34 innings. He is the only player with over 1000 ODI runs in 2023.
The 23-year-old has amassed over 1000 runs in just 18 innings this year with an average of 71. He is currently unbeaten and marching towards his 6th ODI century.
Shubman Gill to dethrone Babar Azam?
Another special innings has given Gill a golden opportunity to dethrone Pakistani skipper Babar Azam and become the top-ranked ODI batter.
Gill needs to score 200 runs to surpass Babar in the ODI standings. While Gill has 2 more games to play to claim the top ODI spot, Babar won’t be playing an ODI until the World Cup.
