Shubman Gill & Yashasvi Jaiswal recreate history after 60 years in IND vs ENG 2nd Test

Jaiswal became the third-youngest Indian double centurion with his 209 in their first inning, while Gill scored his third Test ton in the second inning.

The future of Indian batting, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill, have shown that they are ready to take the reigns from Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.

Jaiswal scored an imperious 209 in the first innings of the IND vs ENG 2nd Test, helping India reach 396. Meanwhile, Gill couldn’t cover his start in the first inning (34 runs) but roared back by scoring just his third ton (104 runs) in his short Test career (22 matches).

They became the first Indian duo aged under 25 to score a double ton and a century since 1964. Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal recreated history, which was scripted by former Indian skipper Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi and Budhi Kunderan.

With the India cricket team down 0-1 in the series, the record is of significance. On a more personal level, having played just a handful of Tests and coming off a poor run on the South Africa tour, Yashasvi Jaiswal needs to show that the opening spot is his.

With calls of him getting dropped due to his poor run, Shubman Gill might have saved his Test career. Coming to bat and seeing skipper Rohit Sharma and last-inning top scorer Jaiswal fail, this inning shows his character.
