Mumbai cricket team batter Shreyas Iyer’s Ranji Trophy campaign got off to an awful start. The middle-order batter, who is making an attempt to regain his spot in the Indian Test side, departed for an 8-ball duck in MUM’s 1st innings against Baroda. The recent knock comes as a blow to Iyer who is desperately eyeing his comeback to Tests.

An unsettled looking Shreyas Iyer was dismissed by Bhargav Bhatt on the 8th delivery that he faced. He remains the only Mumbai batter so far to have departed without opening his account in the 1st innings of MUM vs BAR. Sadly for Shreyas, his poor form from the Duleep Trophy continues in the Ranji season as well, the last stop for the batter to redeem himself in order to stay in contention for a spot in the Test squad.

The only route for Iyer to find his way back to the side is via impressive performances in the domestic circuit.
Both Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan were dropped from the Test side and snubbed from the BCCI’s Central Contracts list after they decided to skip Ranji Trophy earlier this year. While Shreyas made his white-ball comeback eventually in IND vs SL ODIs after the T20 World Cup, he faces an uphill task in making his return to the Test side.
