Prithvi Shaw has been having a bit of a rough time in his career. First he was overlooked at the IPL Auction, then he was axed from the Mumbai Ranji Trophy squad, and now, his Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy campaign wasn’t the best. That in short, could also mean, he might not be considered for the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy.
Prithvi Shaw — A Big Flop?
If Mumbai skipper Shreyas Iyer‘s point-of-view is taken a bit seriously, that might be the only possibility. After winning SMAT, Shreyas had said, “I think, personally, he is a God-gifted player. The amount of talent he possesses as an individual, no one has it. It’s just that he needs to improve his work ethics. He needs to get his work ethics right. And if he does that, sky’s the limit for him.”
The 30-year-old had added, that no one can really force Prithvi Shaw. “We can’t babysit anyone, right? He has played so much of cricket. Everyone has given him inputs. At the end of the day, it’s his job to figure out things for himself. And he has also done it in the past. It’s not that he hasn’t,” the Mumbai skipper said.
Shreyas Iyer Minces No Words
“He has to focus. He has to sit back, put a thinking cap on. He will get the answer by himself. No one can force him to do anything,” he added. For the record, Prithvi had scored only 197 runs in 9 matches for his side, with no fifties. His average was a touch over 21, and had a strike-rate of 156.
Overall though, Prithvi has an excellent record in List A matches. In 65 matches, he has scored 3399 runs at an average of 55, and a strike rate of 125. His highest score stands at a staggering 244.
