India’s star batter, Shreyas Iyer, who is representing Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy, faces a tough 2024/25 domestic season, recording his third duck of the domestic season against Baroda.
Iyer previously registered two ducks while playing for India ‘D’ in the Duleep Trophy. His recent struggles have led to three first-inning ducks in his last four first-class matches, starting in Anantapur, where he failed to score against India A and India B.
No selection in the Indian team
This disappointing performance comes just after Iyer was left out of India’s squad for the upcoming three-Test series against New Zealand. In the match against Baroda, Iyer came in to bat at No. 5 but was dismissed for a duck by veteran left-arm spinner Bhargav Bhatt. After entering at 140/3, he faced just eight balls before returning to the pavilion.
Mumbai’s struggles in the Match
Mumbai faced further challenges in the same match, with Prithvi Shaw (7) and Ajinkya Rahane (29) also dismissed cheaply. Rahane fell to Bhatt, while Shaw was bowled by Krunal Pandya. As of now, by tea, Mumbai stands at 144/5, trailing Baroda’s first-innings score of 290 by 146 runs. The defending champions are looking to build on their recent success, having won their first Irani Cup this century against the Rest of India in Lucknow.
