‘Shreyas Iyer showed keen interest to take part in Buchi Babu Trophy, eager to play red-ball cricket’

Sheyas Iyer will be in action for Mumbai against Jammu & Kashmir on August 27 in Coimbatore in the Buchi Babu tournament

India cricket team middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer is eager to play red-ball cricket, Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) chief selector Sanjay Patil said. The swashbuckling batter will take part in the Buchi Babu Invitation Tournament along with other seniors of the Indian team. As per mid-day, Sanjay Patil said that Iyer showed keen interest in participating in the tournament.

Shreyas Iyer keen on playing red-ball cricket

Shreyas showed keen interest in playing for Mumbai in the Buchi Babu Tournament. He is eager to play red-ball cricket. Though Shreyas and Surya will be playing only one match, it will be a strong message to other state teams that Test players are also keen to play for Mumbai,” MCA chief selector Patil said.

Iyer will be in action for Mumbai against Jammu & Kashmir on August 27 in Coimbatore. India’s T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav will also play for Mumbai, with Sarfaraz Khan set to lead the side. Shreyas Iyer is determined to get back into the Test squad and is using domestic cricket to impress the selectors, just like his other Indian teammates.

Following the ODI World Cup, Iyer snubbed off his BCCI Central Contract. The reason? Shreyas Iyer failed to play domestic matches despite being asked to. Both he and Ishan Kishan didn’t get their central contract. But Iyer continued his heroics and guided Kolkata Knight Riders to lift the IPL 2024 title. He went on to make his comeback in the IND vs SL ODI series in August.
