For those of you, who had doubts over India batter Shreyas Iyer and his hitting prowess..after smashing 71 from 39 deliveries for Mumbai in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he has silenced his critics once again. The ex-KKR skipper, who was sold for INR 26.75 Cr to PBKS at the IPL Auction a couple of days back, showed tremendous form to lead his to a comfortable win against Maharashtra.
Shreyas Iyer Shines Again in SMAT
Shreyas’ innings was marked by complete dominance over the opposition bowlers, where he smashed eight fours and three sixes. In fact, this innings has come after he scored 130 not out from 57 deliveries, against Goa, a few days back in SMAT. If that is not enough, in the Ranji Trophy, he had come up with scores of 142, and 233 just recently, earlier this month.
Shreyas Iyer wasn’t the only brilliant performer, but veteran India batter Ajinkya Rahane looked in his element too. He scored 52 from just 34 deliveries and built a partnership of 110 with his skipper. Having said that, it wasn’t the best of days for talented Prithvi Shaw, who was “wrongly” given caught behind for a duck.
Prithvi Shaw Fails
As far as the match is concerned, Maharashtra scored 171/9 in the first innings after batting first. Nikhil Naik was the top-scorer with 47 from 38. Tanush Kotian was the best bowler as he returned with figures of 3/21. In reply, courtesy of Shreyas Iyer and Rahane, Mumbai sailed to the target with five wickets to spare.
