Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Shreyas Iyer has arrived at the team’s base ahead of Indian Premier League (IPL 2024), shaking off recent back niggles to join his squad.
A History of Back Issues: Shreyas Iyer
Shreyas Iyer has been battling a back problem for some time. He returned from a major injury in September 2023 but reported discomfort during longer stints at the crease during the second Test against England in February.
Despite being cleared to play, the Indian selectors opted to leave him out of the remaining Tests.
While he missed a Ranji Trophy league game for Mumbai to train with KKR, Iyer did return for the crucial semi-final and final, which his team won. However, a recurrence of back pain forced him to sit out the last two days of the Ranji Trophy final.
Ready to Lead KKR in IPL 2024
Despite these recent setbacks, Shreyas Iyer’s arrival at the KKR camp signals his fitness for the upcoming season. Since being bought by the franchise for a hefty INR 12.25 crore in 2022, Iyer has scored 401 runs in 14 matches for KKR.
The Kolkata Knight Riders, under Shreyas Iyer leadership, will be looking to improve on their seventh-place finish from last season. Their campaign kicks off this Saturday against Sunrisers Hyderabad at their home ground, Eden Gardens.
