It could be over for Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer. As per reports, a harsh punishment is set to be levied upon the duo. For apparently missing out on domestic cricket, i.e Ranji Trophy, the duo will lose their BCCI Central Contract. The BCCI Selection Committee led by Ajit Agarkar is set to announce the list for players for 2023-24 within a few days.
Both Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer has missed Ranji Trophy matches for entirely different reasons. Kishan hasn’t been a part of the squad since leaving it midway during the India tour of South Africa series. Shreyas Iyer on the other hand was dropped from the India squad after playing the first 2 Test matches.
There has been conflicting reports on Iyer. While the player complained of a back spasm, the BCCI hasn’t revealed anything on their medical bulletin. Previously, Rahul Dravid, Ajit Agarkar and then Jay Shah asked the players to participate in Ranji Trophy games. Be it Ishan Kishan or Iyer, both remained missing, prioritising IPL over domestic cricket.
But now after repeated advises, the BCCI is set to hand harsh punishments. Both the batters are slated to lose their central contracts for the upcoming year. “The selectors, led by Ajit Agarkar, has almost finalised the list of centrally contracted players for the 2023-24 season too, which the BCCI will announce soon. Kishan and Iyer are likely to be excluded from that list, as both haven’t been playing domestic cricket despite the BCCI’s diktat to do so,” a source told the Times of India.
