Now, that’s how you respond to criticism and disappointment. After being denied a central contract by the BCCI despite performing well in the ODI World Cup 2023, Shreyas Iyer and his crucial 95-run knock in the Ranji Trophy 2024 Final have helped Mumbai win their 42nd title.
Amid reports of the batter struggling with back issues, Iyer fought through the physical and mental hurt to hit an important second inning of 95. However, the batter will not be satisfied just yet. In about a week, Iyer will lead his IPL franchise, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
Currently in the league after a two-year gap, Shreyas Iyer will look to lead the team to glory for the third time. Having missed out last year due to a back injury and now lost his BCCI central contract, the right-handed batter will aim to take out his anger and frustration by leading KKR to glory as their skipper.
IPL 2024: Shreyas Iyer has an eye on the prize
Having been playing in the IPL since 2015, Iyer is a proven middle-order batter. Since 2018, the right-hander batter has been given the role of captain by the two franchises he’s represented, KKR and Delhi Capitals (DC). However, his record hasn’t been impressive. He has a career win percentage as captain of under 50 and has won 6 of the 14 matches for KKR since he joined in 2022.
However, he hasn’t always had the motivation to do his best, like he will this year. With the disappointment of losing the World Cup, getting dropped from the Test team, and losing his central contract, Shreyas Iyer will be back to the IPL, with vengeance on his mind.
