Shreyas Iyer’s return for the Asia Cup 2023 could be a major doubt. Viewed as a mainstay in India’s World Cup 2023 plans, Shreyas is currently rehabilitating at the National Cricket Academy (NCA). The Mumbai-born batter however has refused to put on a return date.
“Whenever I walk back from training there are people waiting outside, wanting to take pictures. And they all ask, ‘When are you coming back?’ I don’t know myself when I’ll be back,” the Kolkata Knight Riders captain said as per OutlookIndia.com

Shreyas has been struggling with a back problem. He pulled up in the 4th Test and has been out of action since. Shreyas was also ruled out of IPL 2023 and the World Test Championship. He underwent surgery in London and has been rehabilitating since.
BCCI are worried regarding Shreyas’ slow progress in recovery. While the Mumbai star has started batting in the nets, it is believed he is still some way away from full fitness. Iyer was not considered for the IND vs WI series and is likely to miss the Asia Cup as well. Despite the surgery, he still has complaints about back pain.
“Iyer’s progress is slow but we are still hopeful that he will recover by World Cup. But at this moment, it’s not a certainty with Iyer,” a senior BCCI official told InsideSport earlier this month.
