India cricket team batter Shreyas Iyer spilled the beans on the incident that involved his snubbing from BCCI’s central contract. The middle-order batter blamed ‘lack of communication’ after the World Cup for the outcome and revealed that he had wanted to take a break to work on his body and build strength around certain areas.

Shreyas Iyer opens up on BCCI central contract snub

I had a tremendous World Cup. I wanted to take a break after that, work on my body & build my strength around certain areas – due to lack of communication, there were some decisions that didn’t go in my favour. At the end of the day the bat is always going to be in my hand & it’s upon me to perform and win trophies. I knew that once I win the Ranji Trophy and the IPL, that will be an apt answer to whatever happened in the past. Thankfully, everything fell in the right place. We have a lot more trophies to win in the future,” Shreyas Iyer said.

As per reports, the KKR skipper had not participated in Ranji Trophy games despite the instructions of the selectors and BCCI secretary, citing back issues. Following this incident, he was axed from the contract list.

Iyer has spoken about the incident previously as well. When asked about the about his back issue during the press conference on the eve of IPL 2024 final in Chennai, the 29-year-old had said, “Basically I was struggling after the ODI World Cup in terms of longer format. And when I raised my concern no one was agreeing to it. But at the same time, the competition is with myself.”
