Shreyas Iyer has faltered in the Ranji Trophy semi finals against Tamil Nadu. Hopes were high on the star batter to let his bat do the talking after he was axed from the BCCI Central Contracts. However, Iyer could only manage 3 runs in Mumbai’s first innings against Tamil Nadu.
Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan were axed from their BCCI Central Contracts for 2023-24. Reason? The duo failed to play domestic cricket matches. Both Jay Shah and Rahul Dravid urged the players to play domestic matches to remain in contention for National Team selection.
However, after his BCCI contract snub, Iyer was spotted in action for the first time in the Ranji Trophy semi finals. Earlier, he played his last match in the IND vs ENG 2nd Test in Vizag. Iyer was then dropped from Team India, but the player complained of back spasms.
Reports claim that Iyer failed to convey his message to the NCA, as a result NCA declared him to be fit. When asked to play domestic matches, Iyer didn’t complaining of his back spasms. However, to work on his fitness and game management, Iyer took part in Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR’s) camp. Subsequently, he was dropped from the BCCI Central contract.

It was expected that Shreyas Iyer would send a strong reply to the BCCI and the selectors with his bat. However, unfortunately he couldn’t let his bat do the talking. Iyer managed only 3 runs from 8 deliveries before being bowled by Sandeep Warrier.
Coming to the game, Tamil Nadu were bowled out for just 146 runs on Day 1. Mumbai too collapsed save youngster Musheer Khan who has gone on to slam an unbeaten fifty.
