Shreyas Iyer ditches cricket bat, goes for baseball bat under Bengaluru sun

Shreyas Iyer had an outstanding day with the bat in India's win over South Africa in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

In preparation for the final league match against the Netherlands in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, team India’s star batter Shreyas Iyer adopted an unconventional approach to refine his batting skills. During Wednesday’s practice session at Bengaluru’s M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, where the IND vs NED clash will take place, Iyer was seen practicing with a baseball bat instead of a traditional cricket bat. Take a look at the picture below to catch a glimpse of his unique training technique.

In-form Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas Iyer delivered a standout performance in India’s win over South Africa in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. His impressive innings of 77 runs off 87 balls played a significant role in India setting a challenging target of 327 runs in the match. Moreover, India went on to secure a dominant 243-run victory as they dismissed South Africa for a mere 83 runs.

During his batting display, Iyer demonstrated a well-balanced approach, hitting seven fours and two sixes. While he wasn’t overly aggressive against Keshav Maharaj, he took on Tabraiz Shamsi, who ended up conceding 72 runs in 10 overs on a spin-friendly track. Overall, Iyer’s contribution emerged as a key factor in India’s commanding win over South Africa in the 2023 World Cup.

Insidesport

In the broader context of India’s campaign, led by captain Rohit Sharma, the team has established itself as an unstoppable force in the ongoing tournament. Their remarkable record of eight consecutive wins, with one final league match against the Netherlands on Sunday remaining, speaks volumes about their exceptional skill, strategic brilliance, and unyielding determination.

Sitting comfortably at the top of the table with 16 points from 8 matches, India has solidified their position, making them irreplaceable. After the Netherlands clash, the Men in Blue, poised to face the 4th-ranked team in the semifinals, will aim for a win that will propel them to the final.
