The National Cricket Academy has clarified the status of Shreyas Iyer and has said that he had ‘no fresh injuries’. This comes a day after the batter opted out of the Ranji Trophy quarterfinals citing back issues. In an email to the selectors, Nitin Patel, the head of sports science and medicine at the NCA informs that Iyer was fit and that no injuries were reported after his departure from Team India.
Shreyas Iyer injured? NCA says nope
“Shreyas Iyer was fit and available for selection as per the handover report of the Indian team after the 2nd Test match against England. There are currently no fresh injuries reported as well after his departure from Team India,” Patel wrote in his email to the selectors, as per Indian Express.
The clarification might spell trouble for Iyer as the BCCI has solidified its stance on domestic cricket. In a letter to all the players, BCCI secretary Jay Shah warned of severe implications on skipping domestic games without an injury or other committments.
Iyer made scores of 35, 13, 27 & 29 in the first two Tests before he was dropped from the squad for the remainder of the series.
Iyer has been struggling with back spasm since last 12 months. The batter underwent a back surgery in March last year and missed the entire IPL 2023 and WTC Final.
Iyer returned in Team India for Asia Cup 2023 but was forced to miss Pakistan game after complaining of back spasm.
