‘Shouldn’t have thrown my helmet ‘ Avesh Khan on LSG vs RCB rivalry

Avesh Khan threw his helmet to the ground in celebration after scoring the winning run in Lucknow Super Giants's close victory over Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. After facing intense criticism, Avesh has finally given an apology for the actions.

During the Indian Premier League 2023, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Lucknow Super Giants had a fierce rivalry. Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir engaged into one of the most ugly on-field altercations in recent memory during a game between the two at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow, and the guy at the center of the altercation was none other than Afghan bowler Naveen-ul-Haq, who starred the spat with Kohli during the game. However, LSG narrowly defeated RCB in an earlier match at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. Pacer Avesh Khan, who scored the winning run, celebrated by throwing his helmet to the ground. Avesh has now apologised for the behaviour after receiving harsh criticism.

In an interaction with The Indian Express, Avesh said that he overdid the celebrations and shouldn’t have displayed his emotions. “Yeh social media mein mera mahool bana rehta hai and helmet incident thoda jyada hogaya tha (People used to bash me on social media, and the helmet incident went a bit overboard) . I realised later that I shouldn’t have done this. It just happened in the heat of the moment. I now feel sad that yaar yeh sab cheez nahi karna tha (I now feel that I shouldn’t have done all this),” Khan said.

Furthermore, Avesh Khan claimed that in contrast to his previous two seasons, the 2023 IPL season was not as successful for him. In the season, he only took 8 wickets from 9 games, and LSG was knocked out in the Eliminator match.

“If you compare my past two IPL seasons before this one, it went the way I wanted too. However, even though the season didn’t go well as per my standard, I maintained my economy rate which is less than 10. I bowl crucial overs 4 or 5th over and later in death.”
