Prior to the start of ICC T20 World Cup 2024, Bangladesh experienced a major blow when their star pace bowler, Shoriful Islam, was hurt on Saturday during their warm-up match against India in New York. Due to the injury, Shoriful is in doubt for Bangladesh’ opening fixture against Sri Lanka on June 6.
With just 26 runs conceded in 3.5 overs and one wicket taken, the left-arm pacer was Bangladesh‘s most effective bowler during the game. His spell, though, was broken when Pandya struck his left hand with a powerful straight drive.
Stitches were required between his palm and index finger, as indicated by the initial swelling and subsequent medical examination. Shoriful is doubtful for Bangladesh’s opening game against Sri Lanka on June 7 in Dallas, as medical staff has indicated that he will require at least a week to recuperate.

The loss of Shoriful, who is an important member of the bowling lineup along with Tanzim Shakib, Taskin Ahmed, and Mustafizur Rahman, presents a big obstacle for the team. In anticipation of possible injuries, Bangladesh’s management had prudently included two travelling reserves, including pacer Hasan Mahmud.
This precaution now appears wise because, should Shoriful be unable to recover in time for the tournament, Hasan might be asked to step in. The team is also keeping an eye on Taskin Ahmed’s recuperation because he should be ready for the first game.
