Shivam Dube baggage: With poor form from IPL extending, should India drop all-rounder from T20 World Cup XI?

Nothing seems to be going right for Shivam Dube ever since his selection in India's T20 World Cup squad earlier in May

India’s fiery bowling attack spearheaded by Jasprit Bumrah headlined the nail-biting win secured by Rohit Sharma and co. against arch-rivals Pakistan on Sunday. The Men in Blue’s batting order was in complete disarray, barring Rishabh Pant, with multiple stars failing when they were expected to perform the most. India will certainly have to crack their heads on a few changes that might be necessary for their next encounter against Canada on Wednesday.

Shivam Dube’s spot in danger?

Nothing seems to be going right for Shivam Dube ever since his selection in India’s T20 World Cup squad. It started with a string of poor performances in the latter half of IPL 2024 which concluded with a heartbreak as CSK were knocked out of the tournament. In the warm-up game against Bangladesh, Dube struggled to read the bowlers and managed to score just 14 runs off 16 deliveries at a miserable strike rate of 87.50.

Matters got from bad to worse for Dube in the game against Pakistan. The batter witnessed yet another failure after he faced a soft dismissal at the hands of Naseem Shah. An unsettled Dube managed to get just three runs in nine deliveries before he walked back to the pavilion.

Dube’s exclusion from India’s XI can pave way for the inclusion Sanju Samson, who can add to India’s firepower in the middle order. If the team wants a left-handed batter in place of Dube, then they have the option of young Yashasvi Jaiswal who has been warming the bench so far.

Will India change their playing combination before Super 8?

However, it is highly unlikely for India to play around with their team combination before the Super 8 stage of the tournament. India’s remaining two fixtures in the group stage will the held in the USA and hence the team is expected to stick to the same XI who have gotten used to the conditions by playing the last three games.
