Punjab Kings’ have been struggling in IPL 2024. A major reason behind their up-and-down season is the absence of their skipper, Shikhar Dhawan, due to an injury. The southpaw opener is one of the most experienced players in the IPL and the second-highest run-scorer after Virat Kohli, and his absence is felt by the franchise as Sam Curran has taken the reigns.
Although PBKS wasn’t doing that well while he was playing, his absence still played a big role in their defeats. Out since April 9, with each passing day, questions over his fitness and injury keep getting raised. Punjab’s assistant coach Brad Haddin was asked about it before the PBKS vs RCB match on May 9.
Waiting for positive news: Haddin on Shikhar Dhawan’s injury
Talking in the pre-match press conference, he said: “In any team that you are part of, it’s disappointing to lose your senior-most player for an extended period, and Shikhar is the most successful opener in this tournament.”
“Shikhar will be assessed when we are in Delhi and then hopefully, we can have more positive news for the last couple of games. Fingers crossed,” he further added.
